Voces intimae and Open Classical will hold a “split screen”
Virtual Liederabend 2020
on Sunday, October 11, 2020 from 4pm to 6pm.
Participants will create a split screen video in collaboration with Collaborative Pianist Colleen Kilpatrick and
produced by Mark Landson of Open Classical. Songs will be pre-recorded individually, then compiled and the result will be premiered on October 11, 2020.
Here is an example of Amy Canchola and Colleen Kilpatrick performing "Le Colibri" by Chausson using this method:

The secret to making a musically excellent split screen video is to create a guide track for both vocalist and pianist. This track will contain the piano part plus possible clicks and aural queues that you will listen to through earbuds as you record your performance on video. The guide track will take the place of visual queues in the case of entrances or tempo fluctuations. Mark Landson will create the guide track based on a recorded interpretation you choose.

STEPS FOR RECORDING YOUR PERFORMANCE:
1) Choose an art song and a recording of that song that you would like to base your interpretation on.
2) Send an email by Tuesday, September 22 to openclassicalinfo@gmail.com with subject “Virtual Liederabend 2000 - YOUR NAME”. Attach your scanned sheet music and recording (either MP3 or YouTube/Spotify link). Let us know your name and voice type.
3) Mark Landson will contact you to discuss your interpretation and create the guide track for you and your pianist.
4) Colleen will record the piano, Mark will make any other needed preparations and send you the track so you can record your video.
5) You can record your video on your phone camera, listening to the guide track on earbuds through a different device. Wireless earbuds are best so you don’t have to deal with wires, but they are not required.
